Nestled between Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, Westwood and Century City are neighboring communities that share one of the most desirable locations in the Los Angeles metro. Together, these upscale neighborhoods feature an intriguing blend of the trendy and the traditional. They are also known for their bustling commercial districts where some of LA’s most prominent skyscrapers are found.

In 1929, Westwood became home to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). This led to more residential developments in the surrounding areas, and gave rise to Westwood’s reputation as a hub for academia and affluence.

Southeast of Westwood is the neighborhood of Century City. Named after the movie company 20th Century Fox, the neighborhood was developed in 1956 on film production backlots that were repurposed for real estate development. Today, a cluster of high-rise buildings stands on the property, cutting an impressive silhouette across the L.A. skyline.

Occupying less than a square mile, Century City is known as the “city within a city”, alluding to its highly urbanized character and significance as a commercial district. The Westfield Century City mall houses luxury shops and upscale dining options frequented by young, sophisticated urbanites, lending a bustling cosmopolitan vibe to the area.

On the border of UCLA’s sprawling 419-acre campus lies Westwood Village, Westwood’s cultural heart. A premier commercial district, Westwood Village strikes a careful balance in catering to the community’s wealthy residents as well as budget-conscious college students. As a result, the district houses a diverse selection of over 100 coffeehouses, restaurants, and retail stores.

Westwood and Century City offer widely varied living experiences. For those who favor quieter neighborhoods, Westwood’s Little Holmby is a charming area that’s a stone’s throw away from the Los Angeles Country Club. Characterized by white stucco bricks and terracotta roof tiles, the community’s vintage Mediterranean architecture draws families in search of expansive homes with spacious outdoor living areas.

On the other hand, those who thrive in a more energetic, fast-paced lifestyle will enjoy living in Century City. With their sleek facades and unparalleled city views, upscale condominiums like The Century puts you in the thick of the action. Whatever your preferences, the Scottman & Rande team will be happy to help you find you the home that matches your lifestyle goals.
