Translated to “Marina of the King”, Marina del Rey is a seaside community bordered on all sides by the city of Los Angeles. True to its name, it is recognized as one of the most important boating and water recreation destinations in the Los Angeles metro. In fact, the Marina del Rey port is the biggest man-made small-craft harbor in North America, and is home to nearly 5,000 boats.

About one-tenth of the community’s 1.45 square miles is water. As of 2020, it tallied a population of about 11,400 people. It’s still growing, drawing in new residents looking for a luxurious waterfront lifestyle without having to share the beach with too many tourists.

Those who are lucky to call Marina del Rey home have access to a host of activities both in and out of the water. You can go sailing on a skippered yacht, or join an open-party fishing trip into the Santa Monica Bay. If you’re out on a date, plop down on one of the many waterfront restaurants in the area and watch a romantic sunset. Or you can spend time together on a dinner cruise or champagne brunch at City Cruises.

For those with families, Marina del Rey also doesn’t run out of wonderful things to do. Go kayaking, paddle-boarding, or jet skiing with the kids. You can also take the whole family to go whale-watching, fishing, or exploring the Ballona wetlands with its over 200 species of wildlife.
