Built around the Silver Lake Reservoir, the Silver Lake/Echo Park communities are known for having plenty of independently owned local businesses that add to their appeal and charm.

Silver Lake and Echo Park are also popular for their intensely unique and creative communities. Pioneering artists, civic leaders, and many other interesting and colorful personalities have all called these neighborhoods home at some point in their lives.

This uniqueness is also reflected in the homes here. Many properties are considered architecturally significant because of their bold and daring designs.

If you’re looking to buy a property in these neighborhoods, chances are one of the houses you’re looking at holds historic significance. Silver Lake and Echo Park are home to quite a few Victorian mansions, Spanish Colonial homes, and Craftsman bungalows built in the early 1900s. Their rich history definitely adds value to the property, as much as it makes for an interesting talking point.

If access to entertainment and nightlife is on top of your list, you won’t be disappointed. There are plenty of bars and nightclubs in these communities, so you’re guaranteed to have a great time any time you want. Silver Lake and Echo Park, after all, aren’t considered two of LA’s “hippest neighborhoods” for nothing.

Anyone looking for the indie rock scene in Los Angeles should come to Silver Lake. The neighborhood was known for its annual street festivals, the Silver Lake Jubilee – which has since moved to Downtown LA – and the controversial Sunset Junction Fair which was discontinued in 2010.

Echo Park is home to the historic Taix French restaurant, which was originally located in Downtown LA. Today, it doesn’t only thrive as one of the must-try restaurants in the area, but is also proudly a community landmark.

Because of its scenic neighborhood views, Echo Park has also been a favorite shooting location for TV and film productions, from Charlie Chaplin films to The Fast and The Furious franchise, to Lady Gaga’s A Star Is Born.
