Golf courses, luxury hotels, natural hot springs, and sunny weather – these are just some of the things that have come to be synonymous with Palm Springs, California.

Located in the Sonoran Desert 100 miles east of Los Angeles, Palm Springs has served as home to countless Hollywood stars and celebrities since the 1930s. Many homeowners come here to spend their vacation or a weekend getaway, while many others have taken up permanent residence. Interestingly, Palm Springs used to be a haven for celebrities who wished to escape the gossip and scandals that come with their fame.

The city is also known for having one of the largest concentrations of midcentury modern architecture throughout the world. It is especially renowned for its collection of homes in the Desert Modernism style – an adaptation of midcentury modern architecture to make it better suited to the lifestyle in this luxurious oasis.

In February of each year, Palm Springs celebrates this architectural feat with Modernism Week, an event that highlights “midcentury modern design, architecture, art, fashion, and culture.” The week long festival features over 350 events, including house tours, architectural bus tours, lectures, film screenings, exhibitions, and more.

Today, people troop to Palm Springs between December and April, the area’s peak tourism season. During these months, the weather becomes most hospitable to those looking to have some fun. Additionally, Palm Springs’ biggest annual events take place during this season.

In addition to Modernism Week, major events include the Palm Springs International Film Festival and the PGA Tour’s American Express Men’s Golf Tournament in January. Music festivals like Stagecoach and Coachella take place every April in nearby city Indio, making the greater Palm Springs area more attractive to tourists.

Beyond these music concerts and festivals, Palm Springs also offers outdoor activities for families to enjoy. Experience the wonders of the California desert by taking the Desert Adventures Red Jeep Tours. There’s also the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway which takes tourists over 2.5 miles along the Chino Canyon cliffs. It also happens to be the world’s largest rotating tram.

Art lovers also visit the Palm Springs Art Museum and Architecture and Design Center. The museum houses some of the finest contemporary California art collections as well as artworks in various other genres. It also offers programs and exhibits that foster the community’s appreciation for the arts, culture, design, and architecture. In addition, the center is home to the Annenberg Theater, a 433-seat venue for plays, musicals, dance, and other live performances.

Palm Springs is also well-known as a golf haven, with Greater Palm Springs hosting some of the best golf courses in the world. These include Escena Golf Club and Indian Canyons Golf Resort in the city of Palm Springs, as well as PGA West, Indian Wells, Mission Hills, Desert Willow, and more – all found within a few minutes’ drive from the city.

Palm Springs’ housing market is trending up and boasts a wide array of housing options, including mid-century modern homes, condominiums, luxury homes, and gorgeous estates. If you’re looking for your very own sanctuary in this prestigious resort community, the team at Scottman & Rande can guide you in finding the perfect property.
